Voila, another music video from the movie Summer Scent featuring Son Ye Jin. Isn’t she cute?

After being with a Korean guy for so many years I thought it was about time to post a top ten list of things that may help you in dealing with Koreans. This may be of interest to those that are either currently dating a Korean, looking into dating one, or are probably already married to one.
1. Korean men are not very open when it comes to showing their emotional side. Be patient. If he really loves or cares about you he will eventually give in. But take your time and take it one step at a time.
2. Korean moms are great cooks. There is nothing that goes beyond a mothers cooking. Make sure to find out what his favorite dish is and learn how to cook it. A great site for browsing authentic Korean recipes is Maangchi. Make sure to check her out. She is top notch!
3. Make sure to bow when you meet his parents. Its the traditional way of saying ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ to someone. Shaking hands is out of the question.
4. For Koreans it is always about the bloodline. Marrying a Korean as a Non-Korean may be an issue for some. You need to put an extra effort into it and learn more about the culture and the language to make any barrier slowly disappear.
5. If you meet his parents for the very first time, go to a Korean store and get some herbal tea or any other health related stuff. Koreans are firm believers in self medication and nothing counts more than something that is ‘Made in Korea’!
6. If your mother-in-law talks to you in Korean, take it as a sign that she beliefs that you are still studying the Korean language. She may just test you to check on your progress! Smile, nod and say ‘nee’.
7. For your boyfriends/husbands birthday try to cook Miyuk-Guk, the seaweed soup. He will love you even more for being so thoughtful.
8. If you plan a wedding, be aware that Koreans are not used to celebrate more than 2-3 hours. Be creative to have them stay longer. Get a bilingual MC and try to stretch the dinner or have a pastor say a prayer towards the end.
9. Watch your weight when you are visiting his parents. Korean mothers love to feed you well. Their cooking is great but be firm when you are about to explode. For the love of your husband/boyfriend you wanna make sure to have a perfect body fit.
10. And in case you still have more questions left, you may just want to go ahead and ask a Korean yourself.
I hope you guys had a great new year. To start this year with something nice I decided to link to two nice Korean music videos that you may want to listen to as you please. The first one is sung by Byul and it shows an abstract of the movie 200 Pound beauty with Kim Ah Joong in the lead role. The other one is one of my Korean all time favorite singers Taeyon. She is one kind of a girl and her voice is just soo beautiful. Enjoy!
MOON Geun-young featured in another Korean drama movie. Loved the movie even though it’s getting pretty bloody in the end. Julian, a cold hearted playboy tries to steal money from Min, the blind heiress to pay back the debts that he owes. One of his creditors gives him a month to pay him back otherwise he threatens to kill him. So Julian comes up with a plan and introduces himself to Min as a long lost brother…
Gotta buy some more movies. Where do you shop for Korean drama’s?
The other day I stumbled over this book entitled ‘The Two Koreas’ from Obersdorfer. I randomly opened it and started to read Chapter 5 ‘The Assasination and the Aftermath’. It was talking about the Assasination of President Park by the former KCIA director Kim Jae Kyu on October 26th, 1979. It felt like reading a fiction novel. The Assassination occured at the so called ‘Blue house’ the president’s mansion. Kim was executed in 1980.
I have decided to buy that book to educate myself more about Korean history. After all I have married into a Korean family. Learning more about his cultural background will help me understand him and his family better. I have so far finished a few chapters. It is pretty well written and gives an exciting insight about a small country caught up in a nightmare of (post) war cruelties, political power games and a socio economic struggle.
While exploring my passion for K-dramas and K-pop I came across one video of the well so known Younha. That little girl has such an incredible voice. Watch and listen!

Whooo. I like it soo much. Can’t wait until it will arrive.
I was browsing youtube to look for some inspirations for a first wedding dance and happen to come across this incredible video filmed on the Philippines showing 1500 inmates at a rehab facility practising Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’…

I wish you all a happy and romantic V-day. I will head out to LA today with James and do some couple stuff. We will have a Valentine’s dinner tonight with some relatives. Make sure to keep your significant other smile throughout the day ^_^
