Kimchi magic

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Writing just recently about the new Bird Flu Outbreak in Japan reminded me of some discussions I had with James last year. Quite many Koreans tend to believe that Kimchi, (pickled, fermented cabbage with lot’s of garlic) is the reason # 1 why Korea had so far opposed more sucessfully than any other Asian country to SARS. If SARS will continue to spread in the future it can only mean that the market for Kimchi will be on it’s rise. So maybe as an alternative to Sushi I should rather go on a Kimchi diet, eh?

It’s good for men

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Haven’t you all wondered what culinary highlights the world has to offer while claiming that it’s all good for men? When I went to Korea last year I passed this food stand and felt instantly attracted to it by it’s unusual odor. My eyes were starring at this bucket full of silkworm larvae, also called Beondegi. So I asked our Korean counterpart Dr.Chang what it was. Dr. Chang explained it to me and mentioned on the side that it was good - especially good for men. It’s definetly a high proteine snack, I thought to myself. I asked my Boss whether he wanted to give it a shot - his franatic look was answer enough for me. So I ended up ordering one cup full of those larvae and shared half of it with Dr. Chang who really seemed to enjoy it.

The Art of Looking Sideways - a true inspiration by Alan Fletcher

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Alan Fletcher, a renowned art director, had published this book a few years ago. I stumbled over it in a bookstore. This book is like a magnet. You can’t get it out of your hands. You just have to buy it. It’s a true visual inspiration and is a compilation of drawings, quotations and interesting facts. It plays with our imagination and our brain. It’s a great brainstorming source and definetly belongs to one of my all time favorites.

Shanghai’s spitting Cabdrivers

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Shanghai’s latest plan for the World Expo 2010 is to distribute 45,000 spit sacks to their Cabdrivers. It seems to be a common habit for Chinese people to spit around whenever they feel like it. Be it in a Subway, somewhere on the street or even spitting out of a Cab. I think this is unusual and definetly a turn off for most Western visitors but being in a Foreign country you have to accept also different habits and traditions. So I respect that though I don’t like it. The plan is to fix those spitting sacks in the front next to the driver. But many Foreigners seem to oppose this idea vividly being afraid that the sack may burst. Maybe they should consider distributing some throw-up bags for the Passengers in the back seat too in case that happens. Also: don’t you think it would make the trip more fun and memorable…?

Carrying your girlfriends handbag

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

In Korea, especially in Seoul, guys seem to like carrying their girlfriend’s handbag. Just go to Myeondong and have a look around. It’s so true. I was talking about it to a Korean friend of mine. She is very independent and would not want a guy to hold her bag since she thought that it would look kinda gay. Many Korean girls are pursuing a nice designer handbag and have their boyfriend carry it for them. Personally I don’t care who is carrying who’s bag but what’s the point of buying a nice handbag if you have someone else carry it for you? I asked James that question and being frank he said that he would only carry it for me if I had lot’s of $$$ in it, lol. There we go. Maybe those guys are using their girlfriends money to buy them whatever they want pretending that they had paid for it… Ha ha.

3:-O Japan Confirms Another Bird Flu Outbreak

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Isn’t it funny? Whenever I travel to Asia I get news of a new Bird Flu Outbreak. Well, since I love Seafood and no Fish Flu had been detected, I will have to end up eating Seafood or Kobe beef for the few days being in Tokyo, hic hic. Unless we will have another Japanese mad cow disease Outbreak that I am not aware of yet. I had Kobe beef last year during my Birthday dinner. It was pretty yummy I must say. With all these animal diseases, I should seriously consider becoming a Vegetarian…But moo-hooooo. I just love rare bloody steaks…3:-O.

(My name means white orchid).
