Moment of truth

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

So here we are pretty much two months away from the big day and I have narrowed down my list to the following items:

- Booking the ceremony music
- Checking on tuxedos for groomsmen and James
- Finalizing flower arrangements
- Sending out second set of invitations
- Renting ceremony columns and urns
- Shopping for make-up and hair
- Buying favors
- Deciding on linen and table deco
- Arranging meeting with DJ and co MC
- Finalizing ceremony program (probably not before April)
- Working on Rehearsal (probably not before April) dinner
- Booking paebaek vendor (for traditional Korean ceremony)
- Start taking dance lessons - kekekek - James already forgot everything he learned during our trial session. 0_^
- Buying Bridesmaid jewelry
…I have my todo list but yet it feels like as if I have forgotten something… could it be…???

So - how much to put into a 2×2 favor box?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Many of you may have come across this question of how much of your wedding favor such as Chocolate or other edibles will fit into a 2×2 favor box. I have found this helpful tool that will give you a pretty close idea of how much you need to purchase. Click here to go to the Wedding favor calculator.

Hair and Make-up

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Wowow. I checked out Pursebuzz and she has really nice hair and make-up tutorials for any occasion. I adore her Japanese Anime Bun tutorial. So cute..kekek. One day I am going to try it when my hair is long enough. I am still on my search for a hair and make-up stylist and hope that my search will end soon. Somehow I am pretty picky with this. Can’t help it.

Venting

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Today I received three invitations and one RSVP back. I could not believe my eyes. We had gone to the post office to ask how much in stamps we had to put on the envelopes. The woman quoted us 58 cents. Now I got three invitations back with an additional sticker labelled insufficient postage and that a surcharge of 17 cents was needed. Arrgh!

Flower DIY tips

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

- Get gardening gloves to protect your hands
- Have friends to help you. Removing thorns and cutting the flowers can take awhile
- When you transport the flowers make sure you do it when the weather is not as hot (e.g. in the morning or in the evening)
- Find a cool place to store your flowers prior to your event
- Ask your florist how the flowers need to be stored as each flower is different
- Make sure to buy spare flowers as a backup for bruised once
- Do a sample run with the flowers. Transport them from A to B and arrange them and see how they last during the weather and during the hours of storage needed.
- Get big buckets to store the flowers
- When you get flowers for your cake make sure those are organic ones. Others may be toxic due to the use of pesticides etc.
- Also keep in mind that a strong floral scent may cause headache to some people.

LA flower market

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

After nagging James to take me downtown to the LA flower market he finally gave in. So we went there fairly early in the morning. To our surpirse it was much better than expected. I got to see and smell all the different varieties of flowers. And browsing through it alone gave me soo many ideas in terms of how I would like to decorate our reception site. I have been pretty determined on doing the centerpieces on my own. James as a good soul that he is still tries to convince me otherwise. But the money that we can save on this is definetly worth it. After browsing through many wedding websites and interviewing many florists I came to the conclusion that the average price and quote that I got for decent wedding flowers including 20 centerpieces, bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, 2 altar arrangements and a center arrangement as well as boutonnieres for the grooms- and bestmen not to forget the parents would come to a minimum of 3-4K. Doing it on my own would save us about half of the cost. I have sketched out a few flower arrangements that I saw and will try to do some samples once it get’s hotter. That way I can see how long the flowers will last in the heat. The only problem I have is the flower storage prior to the wedding. I need a cool place where I can store them for at least 24 hours….hmmm
