Looking at the DOW Chart right now every other day is just painful. I was asking myself what the difference really is between a depression and recession. After seeing George Soros facing Congress over the financial meltdown and him stating that we were close to a recession and that there was a chance of a depression I got all curious. So I looked it up on Google. According to a post on CNBC a recession lasts up till 18 months whereas a depression is a pullback that may last up till four years. A depression will result in a long lasting consolidation pattern. According to the post, a DOW level of 12,000 points seems to be crucial. Failure of the DOW to move above it suggests a depression scenario.Watching the layoffs that are taking place right now is just frightening as well.
